Miss Havisham

Small 8 inches(20cm) long, 10 inches (26cm) wide, paper fabric art dress assemblage.

Another small three dimensional dress, part of the trousseau of Miss Havisham – the matriarch from the classic Dickens novel Great Expectations. Celebrating the bi-centennial of the birth of the famous author, the dress reflects the innocence of Miss Havisham before being jilted at the altar. Though the dress suffers the ravages of time its style remains youthful.

The 3 dimensional bodice is sculpted from old book papers. The material of the skirt is an ivory 100% silk, which has been ruched and stitched together to form blossom shapes at the waist of the skirt. The edging of the skirt is gathered under to give a tulip effect and has a soft fraying muslin underskirt.
