The Princess & The Pea

Wire and papier mache Sculpture – 23cm wide, 33cm high and 16cm deep.

A small princess, wearing a billowing silk night dress, awakes from a restless sleep yawning and stretching as morning approaches .

The figure is made from wire and papier mache. Her hair is made from a soft viscose material which is gathered and ruched, then falls into a long plait. Her nightdress is 100% silk, as she is a princess! On the rug are her petite slippers patiently made from little pieces of paper .

Now the bed, it’s also made from wire and papier mache and sits on a book as if coming alive from the story. From the book a ladder sweeps right to the top of the bed. Her mattresses are from all over the world; from Indian cottons and silks to Chinese satins, beautiful cottons ,linens and 100% cashmere. Her sheets like her night dress are 100% silk, with vintage lace and a beautifully warm cashmere blanket.
